Rudd Foundation Chooses Emporia State for New Scholarship ProgramFebruary 9, 2018
Just one month remains for select Kansas high school seniors to apply for a new scholarship available to Emporia State University.
The Rudd Foundation Scholarship is a program for Kansas residents that gives preference to first-generation and underrepresented students. To be eligible, current high school seniors must quality for Pell grants and plan to attend Emporia State, Fort Hays State or Wichita State universities.
More information and an online application are available at http://bit.ly/2moW0v3. The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. Sunday, March 11.
“This scholarship program is firmly rooted in the Midwestern values of humility, grit, hard work and integrity that make Kansas and its people great,” said Peter Nájera, president of the Rudd Foundation, in announcing the new program. “We are searching for some real go-getters.”
Rudd Scholarships cover the remaining cost of attendance after all other aid, grants and scholarships are applied. This includes tuition and fees, books and supplies and room and board.
The new scholarship is an ideal fit for Emporia State students, where nearly 16 percent of the study body is first generation and 37 percent are eligible for Pell Grants.
“These first-generation students are pioneers for their families,” said ESU President Allison D. Garrett. “We understand how important this goal is for them and have developed a number of programs to help them achieve their dreams.”
Emporia State also boasts a 98 percent placement rate for new undergraduates and the lowest student debt load of all Kansas public universities, according to U.S. News and World Report.
